About us · Science

What research says.

Our approach rests on our own research and on what others found out before us.

Our research

The gap between the environment companies offer and the one people are looking for.

It started with more than 60 one-to-one interviews, 134 questionnaires and the analysis of 170 post-mortems of failed start-ups. From this, the model of the six paradigms emerged.

We published it on 24 December 2019 in the CERN IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation: Raetzer, Self & Klein, “Closing the Gap: Reinventing Organizations for Innovation and the Disruptors who Drive It”.

Since then, the quiz, the short version of the questionnaire, has been completed more than 400 times.

The six paradigms

Six environments in which people flourish.

The model builds on Frederic Laloux’s “Reinventing Organizations” and on Spiral Dynamics. No paradigm is better than another. Everyone has a preferred one.

Mystic

You trust where others doubt. At the center of its attention is trust.

Power

You protect what follows you. At the center of its attention is protection.

Process

With you, theory becomes practice. At the center of its attention is predictability.

Goal

You hit what others only aim at. At the center of its attention is success.

Values

Your compass lies within you — not in an external directive. At the center of its attention is commitment.

Vision

You see what others don't yet see. At the center of its attention is exploring the unseen.

Mystic, Power, Process and Goal are anchored extrinsically: the drive comes from outside. Values and Vision are anchored intrinsically: the drive comes from within.

What we build on

Positive psychology and organisational psychology.

Since the 1970s, research has studied the effect of a good work environment, among others Martin Seligman and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. We are interested above all in one question: What does this approach achieve in companies, and how does it help innovation?
